Like most people my age, I've seen awesome western-bar-themed dance movies and thought to myself "what sort of mystical playground is this saloon I keep hearing about?" That's why, when my original plans with Tim fell through (we were going to go to a street fair in Ypsilanti, but it didn't exactly look legit), I was really excited that he mentioned going out to Diamondback Saloon along I-94. Having never been there before, I had to keep my expectations reasonable.
Par for the course, I assume.
Turns out, and I hope I'm not ruining the end of the movie here, but it turns out that saloons are basically just bars. Surely, you must be asking, there was country music at least? If by country you mean pop then yes. There was country. Now, to be fair, there was more than an equal share of women who believed that neon pink cowboy hats were a solid fashion statement.
For the most part, though, it was just a bar. I did enjoy going out and having a nice drink with a friend, that's for sure. The thing that was nice about Diamondback is that there were lots of places to sit off to the side and enjoy a drink without being in someone's walkway. It looked like the center of the bar had room for a mechanical bull, but as you know, I've been there and done that already. That was day two, bitches. What what?
Truth be told, both Tim and I were super tired. It was really nice to spend a couple hours chatting and people watching. I do think I'll have to try another saloon experience at some point in the future and see if its more westerny.
