Day 216 - Look Up Criminals in my Neighborhood

Date: August 10th, 2010

One of the things that makes the internet delightful is that it puts a world of information at your fingertips.  Unlike in years past when paranoid peoples had no simple way to know whether or not they were surrounded by creepy people, now there is a website for all your creeptastic needs.  I, however, had not previously desired that information.  I know it seems counter-intuitive for someone, especially a young woman living alone, to not want to know if there were criminal types living in the neighborhood, but I really genuinely didn't.

See, my logic was this.  I can't make them not be there.  And in any given neighborhood in the country, there are likely to be people who've committed crimes.  So knowing would only freak me out.  That was my logic at least.  That was fairly quickly overridden by the logic of being tired, working a whole day and realizing I hadn't done anything new yet.

This week has been a bit of a rough transition.  I no longer have a place in Lansing so I've been commuting.  In addition, I'm hitting a bit of a wall.  Doing a new thing every single day of the year isn't easy.  I know I've not talked about the challenge involved very much and that's because I haven't really been, as they say, feeling the burn, until now.

I'm excited for school.  I haven't been for a couple years.  Though I've liked law school, I've really been ready to work.  But now, with it being my last semester, I'm genuinely excited for my normal routine.  Not to mention still working in Lansing two days a week.  I would be delighted to settle back into my day-to-day and only gallivant on weekends.

That is, however, not the project I signed up for.  I know it seems silly, but I'm testing myself and I'd like very much to pass.  So, for those who read and enjoy, I do apologize if some of these entries are a little lackluster.  My hope is that I'll get my second wind soon.  As I write this, Day 229 is starting.  I deeply enjoyed Days 222, 227 and 228.  So, I've got that doing for me.

As for the criminals in my neighborhood?  A couple petty thieves and an assault.  I don't know what I was fretting about.  You should check it out.  Its a hoot.
