Day 211 - Go to a Bachelorette Party

Date: August 5th, 2010

One of the things that I was highly irrationally (and totally selfishly) excited about during the week before Lisa's wedding was that I got to participate in the pre-wedding goodness.  When I was in Alana's wedding, unfortunately, I was only able to be in Hawaii for a couple days.  I had class in the days before and after her wedding so I had to come, do the last 48 hours before the ceremony and then turn right back around.  Consequently, the first bachelorette party I got to attend was Lisa's.

One of the things that's nice about a bachelorette party is that the focus of the party is really clear.  That was really the main difference between that and a random night on the town with friends.  There was no question about who got to decide where we went or what we did - it was Lisa's night.  So we did a tour of Ann Arbor a la our undergrad experience.  We bought her hilarious and inappropriately named shots at Charlie's, went to Melange for wine (because we're classy now), and then hit up Necto for fun and dancing.  It was really nice to catch up with people, get to know the bridesmaids I hadn't met/known before and spend a night celebrating Lisa's fast approaching wedding.

The main thing that I noticed about the night, other than how much fun it was to catch up with people, was that there was a sense of anticipation in the air.  Sure, we were just hanging out and going places we'd all been before, but the focus of the evening was what was to come.  The best part was that there was no apprehension at all.  Its interesting to hear stories about people getting trashed before their wedding or getting cold feet, particularly because that was completely absent from the bachelorette party.  The whole night was about joyful reconnection with old friends who'd scattered to the wind.
