Day 73 - Do a Home Repair Without Any Help

Date: March 20th, 2010

There are little things around my house, car and life that are, quite frankly, baffling to me.  Fixing sinks, plumbing, doors, lights, electronics, computers, any part of a car etc..  its all new and scary.  I took my first little foray into the pit of darkness known as car maintenance when I changed the washer fluid a few days back, but I had yet to crack into the elusive home-repair area of the brain.

Now, in my office, which is an amazing shade of hot-pink that I totally picked out myself, there is a closet.  In that closet there are boxes containing all the knick-knacks and patty-whacks that I don't have another place or use for.  I, generally speaking, have little to no desire to stare at said knick-knacks.  Unfortunately for that plan, my OCD reigns supreme.  What does OCD have to do with staring at storage space, you ask?

Well, my closet (until this Saturday at least) didn't close all the way.  It wasn't quite situated evenly in the track so when it got most of the way closed, it would puff out a little.  I could've put something in front of it, but that would make every trip to the closet an ordeal and I'm not big on ordeals.  The only other solution my OCD would allow was an open closet.  So, I set out to make both the "I don't feel like staring at boxes" part of me and the OCD part of me happy at the same time.  Like any well-versed planner, I understand the concept of measuring twice and cutting once.

That's why it probably wasn't bright that I started by just ripping the darn thing off the hinges.  To be fair, they were removable hinges.  To continue to be fair, I didn't know that at the time.  I figured out the little pushy-downy latch hook system just in time to get mercilessly annoyed by it and almost drop the door on my favorite lounger. (I only have one lounger, but he's rather emo and he'll get all pissy if I don't say he's the favorite).

That being said, with a little jimmying, more patience than I've ever been known for and some elbow grease, I was able to get the track shifted so the door wasn't crooked anymore.  And now - I have a closet that closes and boxes I don't have to look at.  Its a good system.

Showed you who's boss.
