Day 237 - Go Zorbing

Date: August 31st, 2010

Perhaps the most ridiculous thing on the list for this year was something called Zorbing.  I assumed that I wouldn't get a chance to do it since, well, its only found in one place in the entire country and that place is Tennessee.  Having never been to Tennessee and not having had much free time until just recently, Zorbing was high on the hopes list and low on the priorities list.

As part of my epic three day getaway, I made a point to Zorb.  Mostly because I had no idea when I'd get another chance.  In addition to being a fun, cool ride, what I loved about Zorbing was the moment I realized that, were not for this project, I would never have heard of it.  And even if I'd heard of it, I probably wouldn't have done it.  The willingness that I've gained to get out of my shell and experience the world is something that has continued to amaze and impress me.  Meaning that every time I say yes to something, I can hear my former self politely saying no thanks.

Truth be told, as I pulled up to the Zorbing place, that polite former self started screaming a little in my ear.  The hillside is purposely scraggly so that there is more bounce to the ride.  For those who don't know what Zorbing is (I'm assuming most of you), it is essentially a hamster ball and a hill.  There are two options.  You can get in the big ball, have them put water in it and slide around down the hill.  Or you can strap in to the side of the little ball, without water and bounce down the hill.  I took the opportunity to enjoy a water ride and boy was it worth it!

I have pictures that I will gladly post and share in a few days, but with getting settled back in school, life has become somewhat hectic.  It's been all I could do to keep the project going... so I guess I picked a good time for my mini-trip.  The main thing I took away from the whole Zorbing experience is that there is sublime joy in the absurd for me.  I truly, deeply, passionately love having had experiences that most people I know haven't gotten.  There's something incredibly nifty about that.

Plus it was, like, a total freaking rush!
