Today was what I like to call a "back-up" day. I intended to head over to Lansing for the afternoon and do something there. That being said, 7+ inches of snow changed my mind darn quick. So, I turned to the section of my list reserved for snow emergencies, personal-bad-days, finals and other natural disasters of epic proportion.
I have been shocked that people have asked me for a card so many times since I started this. I've actually found myself feeling somewhat unprofessional that I had to offer to write down the URL for them instead of just handing over a card. I know that's incredibly silly because, I mean, heck, I am unprofessional. That's sort of the point - journey of self-discovery and all that good stuff. Then again, if you know anybody looking to pay someone to do this, maybe I'll give them my card... cause I totally have one now.
I spent my afternoon indoors designing two business cards. One for the blog and one for personal/professional use. Remember that law school thing I do in my free time? It seemed like it should have its own card since the law is going to be, you know, my career, in the near future. I've gotten so many requests about the blog though (a surprising number.. I never would've thought it would happen that way) that it seemed remiss for me not to get blog cards too.
I played around with a lot of different designs, but settled on something simple, pretty, colorful and using the logo I came up with a couple weeks back. I'm pretty pleased with the design. Its not something I would send to business colleagues, but it isn't supposed to be. Its supposed to make me happy and it accomplishes that wish ease.

As I said above, I went with something more professional for the official card I'll use for law school. It has essentially the same information as this one, minus the URL and pastels. I designed the template for the one above, but I used a stock template for the law school one. Unlike some of my earlier attempts at visual design, the point of this wasn't to play around so much as gain a professional resource. Truth be told, people our age should have business cards. It seems a little silly, but it is easy to forgot why you have a number in your phone. A business card provide the information you want to provide... so while you may be forgettable (try to work on that), the information you want the other person to have is right there in black-and-white.
...or various shades of beige...
So there it is. I've entered the world of adulthood. I now have business cards. I will immediately cease having any fun of any kind. Oh no! What have I done?
cool card. and fun is a choice, always. Mom
