Super Fun Rules & Regs Post

As I mentioned in the last post, there are some details to share about how we're going to do things this coming year.  In 2010 we had a little bit larger budget to work with so we were able to do some more extravagant things - this year is more about looking inward.  Because looking inward is free.  And good for the soul or some crap, I guess.

Cheap bastard.

Every day there is some kind of observance that we're going to do.  While there are some that are mostly spiritual or thought exercises, we genuinely tried to find days were we would be doing THINGS to celebrate.  The calendar for the year has been set (unless something much awesomer comes along and then all bets are off).

So, without further ado, the rules:

1. There must be a new holiday observed each day of the calendar year.
2. Holidays may be common and famous (Christmas) or weird and obscure (World Toenail Clipping Day... or something)
3. Do not talk about Fight Club
4. There will be nudity... because apparently that is how a LOT of cultures celebrate.  There will not be pictures of the nudity - you're just gonna have to take our word for it.
5. Dangerous traditions will be mimicked in a safer and wholly less stupid manner.
6. Holidays will be celebrated by both Justin and I wherever possible.  If not possible, they must be celebrated by at least one of us while the other watches in shame.
7. If the holiday has the word "Week" in parentheses, we couldn't find a holiday we liked for that day so we decided to observe a week long holiday that coincides with our open day.

As for a posting schedule.  Our intention is to post the day after the holiday with a dated post or on the day of the holiday if the celebration has ended early enough.  That's not a promise.  You can't hold us to it.  You can't take that to the bank and other promise related cliches.  We will, however, try our darndest.

Oh!  And one last thing -- we absolutely love the idea of people celebrating with us and sharing their experiences (either anonymously or, umm, nonymously).  So, each week will have its days previewed.  Anyone who wants to celebrate along - please do and let us know how it goes so we can share it with our tens of readers.

So, what is the first week of January going to be like?

January 1: First Foot Day
January 2: National Science Fiction Day
January 3: Fruitcake Toss Day
January 4: World Braille Day
January 5: Joma Shinji
January 6: Dia de los Reyes
January 7: Celebrate Life Day (Week)

Enjoy!

We're Baaaaaack!

We're just 15 days away from a whole new project!  2014 is the year of the holiday!!

See, it turns out that finishing a project and launching right into a new one doesn't give the body and mind adequate time to regroup.  I hope the two year hiatus hasn't been too much of a downer, but given that the absolute and vast majority of people have... you know... lives... I'm guessing everyone got along just fine.

So what exactly is the year of the holiday?  Well, I'll explain more in the week before it starts, but the short version is this: the hubby and I are going to celebrate one holiday a day, every day, for 2014.

It started when we noticed the Christmas creep edging ever so slightly earlier this year than it did last year.

NO.  Screw you.  NO.

So this year we're going to pay homage to the lovely and overlooked holidays that flit in and out of the calendar between the biggies.  We are going to celebrate the biggies as well.  I mean, I love the living crap out of Christmas... just... not until after Thanksgiving.

We decided on some... let's call them rules... and parameters that we would follow and from there we're just going to go nuts.  I hope anyone who chooses to follow our adventures has just as much fun as we do -- knowing people get the grins from our silliness makes the silliness so much better!

Toodles til next time!
